Materials & Sizing

Every piece from Lumen & Stone Jewelry starts as raw metal and stone on my bench in Asheville. Here is exactly what goes into each ring, chain, and setting, and how to choose the right size.

Metals
Recycled 14k and 18k gold in yellow, white, and rose, plus sterling silver for select pieces. Every alloy is cast in small batches at a family-run foundry in North Carolina.
Gemstones
Ethically sourced diamonds, sapphires, and moissanite, hand-selected stone by stone. Birthstone and heirloom stone resets are available on request.
Plating & Finish
White gold pieces receive a rhodium finish for extra shine. Rhodium wears over one to two years of daily use and can be reapplied at our bench for a small fee.
Ring Sizing
Rings ship in half sizes 4 through 10. Not sure of your size? Wrap a strip of paper around your finger, mark where it meets, and send us the measurement in millimeters. One free resize is included with every ring.
Chain Lengths
Necklaces are made in 16, 18, and 20 inch lengths. Bracelets run 6.5 and 7.5 inches. Custom lengths are available in checkout notes or by writing to us directly.

Caring for Your Pieces

Fine jewelry ages best with a little attention. Follow these five habits and your piece will keep its shine for decades.

01

Wear it, don't bury it

Jewelry left in a drawer tarnishes faster than jewelry worn often. Skin oils help keep silver and gold from dulling.

02

Store pieces separately

Keep rings, chains, and earrings in their own soft pouches or lined compartments. Gemstones scratch metal, and chains tangle when tossed together.

03

Clean it at home, gently

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap, and a soft toothbrush lift most everyday grime. Pat dry with a lint-free cloth before putting a piece away.

04

Bring it in once a year

Once a year, mail your piece back to the bench or drop it off in Asheville. We check prong settings, polish the metal, and tighten anything that has loosened.

05

Keep it away from chlorine and lotion

Pools, hot tubs, and perfume sprays are hard on both metal and stone settings. Take rings and chains off before swimming or applying lotion, and put them back on last.
